ABNLP Sydney Members Forum

In Sydney we hold a Members Forum on a monthly basis. Currently, Members Forums are held on the Third Wednesday of each month at the City Tattersalls Club located on Pitt Street (near Market Street), Sydney CBD. There is plenty of parking in the area, we suggest either the QVB, or MLC Centre. Parking after 6pm averages from $10-$15. The venue is a short walk from Town Hall Station.
The workshops are suited for NLP Practitioners, Master Practitioners and Trainers and are aimed at areas such as skill development, personal development, business, health, and overall wellbeing. We encourage all members to take advantage of these workshops as you not only are able to continue your NLP learning, you are also involving yourself in the community of NLPers!

Do you have a topic you would like to present at a workshop? We are always looking for speakers for our workshops. To apply to be a speaker, simply download the Speaker Application form and send it back to us. One of our workshop organisers will then touch base with you to discuss possibilities.

21 January 2009

Topic: Metaphors in Mind: Therapeutic Modelling in Action
Speaker: James Lawley and Penny Tompkins
About the workshop:

Penny and James will demonstrate and debrief how they apply modelling as a change process by using Symbolic Modelling and David Grove's Clean Language.

Symbolic Modelling uses client-generated metaphors to work with higher levels of experience - core beliefs, sense of identity, life purpose and the spiritual, as well as complex and seemingly intractable issues that are not amendable to traditional techniques.

Our personal metaphors and symbols are like threads which we weave together to create a continually unfolding tapestry - the fabric of our existence. Metaphors are so functional, persuasive and embedded in thought, word and deed that they seem to remain out of our awareness.

Through Symbolic Modelling the client becomes aware of the way their metaphors define their experience and how their symbolic mind-body-spirit perceptions work together as a perfectly functioning system. The model-of-self, or Metaphor Landscape, exists as a living, breathing, dynamic, multi-dimensional world within and around them.

About the Speakers:

Penny Tompkins and James Lawley live in England and train internationally. In 1993 they were instrumental in getting Neurolinguistic Psychotherapy accepted by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and have continued to be active members of the NLP Psychotherapy and Counselling Association (NLPtCA) ever since.  They have been on the UKCP National Register of Psychotherapists for the last 15 years. They are also supervisors, coaches in business and NLP trainers. For their contribution to NLP they have been made honorary members of both the International NLP Trainers Association (INLPTA) and the Canadian NLP Association (CANLP).

Their book, Metaphors in Mind: Transformation through Symbolic Modelling together with their training DVD, A Strange and Strong Sensation, provide a comprehensive guide to working with the symbolic domain of clients' experience using metaphor, modelling and the Clean Language of David Grove. For more information and 70 of their articles visit www.cleanlanguage.co.uk.
