1) What is NLP? 2) Is NLP a therapy? No. One of the applications of NLP is in the fields of counselling and therapy. 3) Is NLP manipulative? No. NLP is grounded in several assumptions one of which is that any technique used with a client or in business must increase choice for the person involved. NLP is heavily grounded in respect for how others view the world. 4) Are NLP and hypnosis the same thing? No. NLP draws on many hypnotic principles (namely the power of the unconscious mind and language) however NLP and hypnosis are not the same. 5) How does one train to be a Practitioner of NLP? There are many courses across Australia and internationally that train in NLP. It’s always advisable to check the credentials of a Practitioner or Trainer before seeing them as a client or student. The ABNLP has several guidelines that are useful here. The ABNLP has a Registered Clinical and Trainer level of membership which helps members of the community when seeking a trainer or practitioner.
